Susan (Shufen) Pan is an environmental scientist with a passion for exploring the intricate interactions within human-environment systems amid a rapidly changing world. By employing an interdisciplinary approach that integrates geospatial technologies such as GIS, GPS, and remote sensing, alongside computational modeling and AI/machine learning, she addresses critical environmental challenges. Her research, supported by NSF, NASA, EPA, NOAA, and USDA, covers a range of important topics, including the impacts of climate change, adaptation and mitigation strategies, the food-energy-water nexus, and land use dynamics. With a global perspective, her work has reached diverse regions across North America, South America, Asia, and Africa, resulting in over 140 publications in respected journals such as Nature and PNAS. In addition to her research endeavors, she is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of environmental leaders through education. She aims to inspire creativity and cultivate critical thinking skills in her students, preparing them to tackle significant challenges in their academic and future careers. Currently, as the Research Director of the Center for Earth System Science and Global Sustainability and the Global Carbon Project md传媒国产剧 Office, she focuses on fostering collaborative partnerships to study the carbon cycle and develop strategies for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
